If you were going to conceive of what the "charm" of an old country log cabin looks like, this house would be it. It was originally just a summer house and like a lot of similar buildings, it was built too close to the ground. So the inevitable had happened and the ground floor framing was completely rotted and falling down. The foundation needed to be raised and new pressure treated floor joists and beams needed to be added. With literally inches between the floor framing and the ground, working from underneath was not a viable option. That meant working from inside and completely removing the flooring, subfloor and two built in banquette benches in the dining area. Both the benches and the flooring had the aforementioned "charm" infused into them from many, many years of patina which could never be duplicated. The benches and flooring had to be painstakingly removed so they could be re installed. It worked! You'd never know anything was done to the house.
