Pat's "getaway from the city" house, had seen many years of enjoyment from a large extended family. It was time for some improvements though. The pine siding was shot, windows and doors were old, not enough insulation in all the walls and ceiling, and the second floor really didn't provide enough space for the family get togethers.
So, the second floor was completely removed and new walls and roof were built to allow for full use of the second floor footprint. New exterior sheathing was installed on the whole house, with rigid foam insulation on top of that and then new siding. All new windows and doors were installed also. Since this is a second home, she chose vinyl windows and doors for their ease of maintenance.
